Dear Editors
Monday, April 27th, 2009Dear Editor, I’m writing a rapping shout-out to you
For issues “one”, “four”, ”three”, and especially “two”.
We love the writing that spills from your collective mind,
You’re like a fountain of voices all hyped up on design.
Cease and Desist
Sunday, April 26th, 2009Working title has made the shock discovery that there are designers working collectively within the Designersblock show based in Thaon de Revel. Even more shockingly there are are at least 3 ‘collectives’ within the exhibition. The New Oxford school dictionary describes a collective as ‘adjective of a group taken as a whole, our collective opinion. Not a great definition, but it is after all it is a kids dictionary and was never intended or designed to be used at an event with the gravitas of the Salone Internazionale del mobile, but it will have to suffice.

Stefano Giovannoni designed loo seat…
Sunday, April 26th, 2009
It is a well-known fact that the Japanese have got going to the loo sorted. And that the kings of toilet toilette are Toto. And having pampered the bums of Asia since 1917, Toto are now touting their wares in Europe. Visitors to Via Solari 37/39 (Tortona District) can savour their latest product and first conscious attempt to woo a European market with a ‘washlet’ (i.e. robotic loo seat) designed by none other than Stefano Giovannoni.
Spaces, Stories & Designing
Sunday, April 26th, 2009It is not an uncommon story to link the notion of the self to space. Many of us do it as very young children when writing our names and addresses, expanding the address locating us in our street, town, city and country, to encompass the world, the solar system, the Milky Way, the universe.
Confessions of a Chair
Friday, April 24th, 2009A good tonic to ostentatious and wildly out of context design can be found at the Prophets and Penitents show, which is being held in a wing of Sant’ Ambrogio, Milan’s oldest church. DAMn magazine has invited over 30 designers to submit prototypes to the show, dubbed “Confessions of a Chair”. Wandering in to a small chapel on the left of the main building, you are immediately struck by that stony coolness that always seems to pervade the atmosphere of religious places.

Notes from a Petri Dish…
Friday, April 24th, 2009
I write to you from a small world where I sit pruning my flagellum in contemplation. When our colony size is sufficient and when environmental conditions suit, we will engage in a group motility known as ‘swarming’. Some will grow extra flagella, become highly motile, attach themselves to each other and move as one. All in order to explore the environment and colonize a more favorable patch. Despite enormous progress, some extraordinary group behaviors remain poorly described by scientists and artists alike.
