A night in Hospital

‘The Hospital’ in Covent Garden is a private members club and creative arts venue, who are currently showcasing the work of their Creatives in Residence; the program supports creatives across film, music, fashion, theatre, graphic design, visual and performance arts. As part of the residency, stylist and fashion designer Nova Dando presented her latest showcase ‘The Rainbow Collection’ at the Hospital, in a concept video, and in performances worn by Mercury Prize nominee La Roux and New York dance collective The House of Danger Kat.

The House of Danger Kat understand how to work this offbeat collection, the dancer wearing the head piece allows it hang down covering his face because he knows it works best this way. The confidence of both the designs and the dancers create a style that is twisted and edgy, working the bold colours, sparkle and patterns of Nova’s lycra pieces, overlaid with exaggerated shoulders, millinery and skirts. The Danger Kat boys and girls with crew cuts and bald heads performed their dance ‘Opulence’ which has the alluring appearance of Thriller for electro junkies; on a par with Michel Gondry’s Daft Punk video for ‘Around The World’ only with bizarre freestyle sections.

Nova Dando and The House of Danger Kat have been taking their boom-box to the streets, presenting the Rainbow Collection in Guerilla Shows across London.

This was a fantastic show at the Hospital. The atmosphere was incredible- what with the music and performers- and the dance group gave the Rainbow Collection an impressive edge. Saam Faramand’s film was also great. There’s a short video of the event here http://www.jotta.com/magazine/video/359/nova-dando-s-rainbow-collection
